Brief Description: Provides fire personnel basic knowledge/skills in Rope Rescue Operations as defined in NFPA 1006.

Full Description: Rope Operations is designed to give fire service personnel the basic knowledge and skills to safely perform ropes and rigging for rope rescue as defined by NFPA 1006, This course is to prepare local responders to operate as a local member of a Rope Rescue Operations Team. This course provides those personnel with the basic knowledge and skills needed to perform rescues using rope systems. The class will cover the use of rope, rope equipment, hardware, construction of mechanical advantage systems, belay and safety systems, anchor systems, and patient packaging.

Reporting Instructions: This class, as well as the state if Indiana, recognize and utilize the Jones and Bartlett 5th Ed. Rope Rescue Textbook. Ensure each student brings an electronic device to access the internet to take final state test.
It is recommended that each student be familiar with the following knots prior to start of class to ensure the progress of the instruction in limited time available.
Portuguese bowline (bowline on a coil)
Munter hitch
All figure 8 knots
Prusik hitch
water knot
