Welcome to the Public Safety Leadership Development Course
Ready to embark on a transformative journey that will unlock your true potential as a leader? Join us at the Fire and Public Safety Academy for a one-of-a-kind experience that goes beyond traditional leadership courses.

Our course is designed for all disciplines and aims to nurture and elevate Indiana's public safety leaders through a unique and engaging approach. We focus on you—yes, you—as an individual, delving deep into introspection to help you discover your leadership style and strengths.

What makes our course different?
• Interactive Learning: Forget about dull lectures. Our subject matter experts utilize the Socratic method to spark thought-provoking discussions and debates, keeping you on your toes from the first to the last hour of instruction.
• Creative and Passionate Growth: Prepare to be inspired! Our course is packed with innovative exercises and activities that fuel your motivation and passion for leadership.
• Holistic Development: We equip you with essential comprehension tools, methodologies, and skills that will benefit you both professionally and personally.

But don't just take our word for it—here are some testimonials from our past participants:

“The leadership class is truly one of the most important and impressive courses any firefighter, company officer or chief can take.  It has made me a more effective chief and has benefited me personally as well as my community.”
- Chief Joe Martin, Dyer Fire Department

“This is so much more than a class.  It not only taught me what type of leader I am, but also taught me how to work with other various types of leaders.  This class also provided a resource for networking with other first responders.  I would not only recommend this class for those in executive leadership, but those frontline supervisors as well.”
- Director Kevin D. Hicks, Grant County Central Dispatch

Course Format:
This forty (40) hour course consists of two (2) separate blocks of learning.  Both blocks are three (3) days in length for a total of six (6) days of instruction.

Overall Course Objectives:
This comprehensive course, designed for current and aspiring leaders, covers a range of essential topics in leadership, communication, and personal development. Our experienced instructors have custom-built these non-traditional courses based on their passion for adding value to others.

We guide students through the process of seeing people for their humanity and not merely as means to an end. This includes an in-depth exploration of decision-making processes, enabling leaders to make better professional and personal choices. Our communication classes shed light on how mitigated speech, orienting comments, emotional intelligence, and other factors influence critical discussions.

Taking care of others starts with taking care of yourself. We emphasize the importance of mental resilience, diet, exercise, and sleep to help you thrive in both your career and personal life.

Do you have personal goals and priorities? We believe these are crucial for finding focus and direction amidst chaos. You’ll be guided through the process of committing to your own set of core values and understanding your role within your organization.

Change is inevitable, but there are effective tools to help manage how you and others respond to the unknown. We will guide you through common trends—both positive and negative—empowering you with confidence during these times.
When things go wrong, communication is often the first to be blamed, yet it's also the best solution. We are passionate about providing practical skills to enhance your communication through crucial conversations, persuasive arguments, non-verbal skills, and a deep understanding of different personalities.

Sign up now because your participation makes each course unique, personal, and life-impacting.
