Brief Description
RIT Skills Day
Full Description
This intensive, hands-on training day is designed to challenge and sharpen the skills of firefighters tasked with Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) operations. Participants will cycle through a series of realistic, high-stress scenarios focused on locating, accessing, and removing downed firefighters from hostile environments.

Core skills covered include:

• Victim Drags & Carries: Efficient methods for moving unconscious or injured firefighters through confined or obstructed spaces.
• Stairwell Rescues: Techniques for safely moving downed firefighters both up and down stairs using minimal personnel and equipment.
• Ladder Removals: Execution of vertical extrications via ladders, with an emphasis on roof and upper-story rescues.
• Roof Operations: Locating and removing incapacitated firefighters from pitched or flat roof environments.
• Mayday Search Scenarios: Systematic search drills in low visibility, high-heat environments to locate missing or trapped firefighters under time pressure.

This course emphasizes teamwork, communication, and rapid decision-making under duress. Participants should expect to be physically and mentally challenged. Full PPE and SCBA are required; RIT packs and rescue tools will be used extensively throughout the day.

Target Audience: Interior-qualified firefighters, company officers, and rescue team members looking to reinforce or refresh RIT fundamentals and advanced rescue techniques.
